This is Part 5 of a series of articles.
I would not plan a vacation without having some idea of where I would get my meals after I got there. In addition, I am certain it might be a little difficult to get a dinner reservation or seating at some of the more popular restaurants during peak season. A good rule to follow here is probably to decide on some restaurants before the trip and call at least two weeks ahead of time for reservations. I would not want to end up eating sandwiches and chips after I spent so much time figuring out how to get there, how I would get around after I got there and where to stay. I would want to sample as many of Nantucket’s restaurants as I could both in casual and fine dining.
In this part of the series I will review briefly what sounds like choices I would enjoy. Keep in mind, there are many other choices. The main thing is to have an idea of where you want to eat so you can make your reservations ahead of time.
For casual dining:
A.K. Diamonds sounds good. They boast an award winning salad bar and awards for “Best of Nantucket” Family Dining and an Inexpensive Restaurant, which they say, sets them apart from the rest. So I think I probably would see what they had to offer me at mealtime for casual dining experience in Nantucket, Massachusetts. They feature home made chowder, which won a first place in a Chowder Contest. I definitely want to try the chowder! I also like the large portion deal, although I usually leave most of it behind, it is still much better than a skimpy serving when I am eating out. A.K. Diamonds is located at 16 Macy’s Lane in Nantucket, Massachusetts.
Even Keel Café also sort of rings true to me as a place I might like to eat for casual dining. They boast of a comfortable ambiance of a seaside resort café. Even Keel Café is located in the center of downtown Nantucket at 40 Main Street.
Nantucket Lobster Trap is a casual restaurant that welcomes children. They accept reservations for six or more persons only. They also have a Lobster Trap Patio available for private parties you would need to call for details and availability. This restaurant is located at 23 Washington Street, Nantucket, Massachusetts.
Fine Dining Experiences
Straight Wharf Restaurant is a hub of summertime activity and the namesake of one of Nantucket’s finest restaurants. This is a waterfront setting with a menu of native seafood and an extensive wine list. They were winner of the Wine Spectator “Best of Award of Excellence.” Reservations requested for dining room and restaurant. It is closed on Mondays. A trip to Nantucket Island in Massachusetts would not be complete without a sampling of their seafood.
The Club Car is a classic Nantucket dining experience that features favorites and traditional classics prepared and served with creative flair. They boast an extensive wine list and open mid-May through October, on Thanksgiving and Christmas Stroll weekend. Call for reservations are recommended highly. They are located at 1 Main Street, Nantucket, Massachusetts.
The Woodbox certainly sounds like an interesting restaurant with their low-beamed ceilings, old “King’s boards” wide pine floors, candlelight, antique tables, oriental rugs and bone china table service. The atmosphere is one of quiet sophistication. They were voted “most romantic” by Cape Cod Life, and makes for a nice autumn dining choice.
Cioppino’s Restaurant & Bar is in the heart of Nantucket on 20 Broad Street. They feature a great wine list and extraordinary menu. The outside patio provides a wonderful spot for an evening under the stars. This restaurant would be another must experience it for me. I would definitely be interested in dining at Ciopinnio’s Restaurant & Bar at least one evening while I was visiting Nantucket, Massachusetts.
