The Havana Brown cat breed is also known as the Swiss Mountain cat that was well known and shown in England in the 1890s.  This cat is similar to the oriental shorthair and full color cats.  It is also known as non-blue eyed Siamese. 

The Havana Brown is moderate in size with a muscular body build and short hair.

Appearance Description

• Medium size
• Usually is never long nor slinky like its Siamese ancestors or Oriental cousins, nor should be short and cobby like the Persian or Burmese breeds
• Well-toned, muscular body communicates a sense of power
• Males tend to be proportionally larger and more heavily boned than females
• Adults weigh 6 to 10 pounds
• Soft, silky coat short to medium in length
• Color is a deep, rich, mahogany brown that feels like a luxurious mink or the finest of pure silks
• One of the most distinguishing features of the Havana Brown is the head, which is slightly longer than it is wide, the profile should be neither straight like that of the Siamese or Oriental, nor should it have a definite break like that of the Persian
• Some of the descriptive comparisons of the head are:  looks like a light bulb, like a corncob stuck on an orange, like the head has been stuck in a soft drink bottle, like a teddy bear
• The nose is wide with rosy-toned brown leather
• The Havana Brown is the only breed of cat whose standard specifies and require whisker color that must be brown to complement the coat
• Oval-shaped green eyes is a very captivating feature
• Large, forward-pricked ears contribute to the sweet expression on the face of the Havana Brown
• Elegant and graceful
• Stands tall on its legs
• Paws are dainty and oval in shape and must be rosy in color
• Medium-length tail tapers gently to a slightly pointed tip

• Alert

• In general, they are somewhat shy and soft-spoken

• Can be taught to be well behaved

Grooming Tips

• Requires a minimum of routine grooming
• Weekly ear cleaning and trimming of nails
• Minimal amount of hair loss or shedding
• Use a fine-toothed steel comb once or twice a week
• You can bath this cat once or twice a week if desired
