The purpose of the Field Museum is to accumulate and disseminate knowledge, the preservation and exhibition of objects illustrating art, archaeology, science and history. The name was changed to “Field Museum” in 1905 to honor the Museum’s first major benefactor, Marshall Field as well as to better reflect its focus on the natural sciences.

Guests at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway may also tour the Hall of Fame Museum while riding around the 2.5-mile IMS oval in one of the Museum’s tour buses. There is a stop at the “Yard of Bricks” to allow poses for photographs.

It is actually an estuary stretching from southernmost Virginia to northernmost Maryland having a distance of 180 miles.
