The North Shore Beaches of Nantucket Island generally have gentle surf suitable for children.  The exception to this is Brant Point which has a strong current.  A lot of these beaches can be reached easily from town.  All of them have great views of Nantucket Sound or the harbor.  Beaches included on the North Shore are:

I would not plan a vacation without having some idea of where I would get my meals after I got there.  In addition, I am certain it might be a little difficult to get a dinner reservation or seating at some of the more popular restaurants during peak season.  A good rule to follow here is probably to decide on some restaurants before the trip and call at least two weeks ahead of time for reservations.  I would not want to end up eating sandwiches and chips after I spent so much time figuring out how to get there, how I would get around after I got there and where to stay.  I would want to sample as many of Nantucket’s restaurants as I could both in casual and fine dining.

After you decide how you will get to Nantucket and then how you will get around in Nantucket after you get there, you must decide on where to stay.  Keep in mind that most hotels and inns require a two or three-night minimum stay during high season, special events, and holidays.  When you call for reservations be sure to clarify each hotel or inn’s reservation policy.

The majority of people traveling to Nantucket find it more practical to leave their car on the mainland.  The island has a convenient shuttle bus system, beach trolleys, bicycle trails, taxis, tours and car rentals that make it easy and convenient to get around, to sightsee and explore Nantucket Island.  The following is a few points you need to consider before bringing your own car.  

When is a good time to arrive and depart Nantucket Island in Massachusetts?  It is probably the best idea to make your travel plans to arrive and depart during mid-week.  This would be Monday through Thursday.  You will be more likely to miss the heavy weekend traffic over the Cape Cod Canal bridges and all the large crowds at ferry docks and airports.  When to visit, how to get to Nantucket, Massachusetts and how to get around the island during your stay will be some of the first decisions you will have to make when planning a visit to Nantucket Island in Massachusetts.  In this series of articles I will offer you suggestions about planning your Nantucket Island Getaway Vacation.
